The City of Festivals
It’s not hard to see why Indio is often referred to as “The City of Festivals” — it’s home to annual events, concerts, festivals, and shows large enough to be known internationally. From the Moutai Polo and Balloon Festival to the International Tamale Festival, and everything in between, Indio is overflowing with celebration.
Some of its most notable festivals include the Southwest Arts Festival — featuring traditional, contemporary, and abstract art by more than 240 acclaimed artists; the Riverside Country Fair & National Date Festival — which includes ground acts such as juggling, acrobatics, and trampoline, as well as fair food, concerts, monster trucks, and Demolition Derby; and the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival
The world-renowned three-day music and arts festival of Coachella Fest, hosted by the Empire Polo Club, features genres of music from rock and indie to hip hop to electronic dance music, as well as unique art and sculpture exhibits. It’s one of the largest music festivals in the world, and as such it draws an international crowd for three days of music, art, light shows, and camping.
Other Notable Attractions
Indio isn’t just for concert-lovers! The Coachella Valley History Museum provides a glimpse into the rich history of the Coachella Valley through exhibits such as the Desert Submarine, the Blacksmith Shop, Pioneer Farming, and events and classes throughout the year. It also features the only Date Museum and Gardens, and a lush and beautiful Japanese Garden exhibit.
Also popular are winter tournaments at the Empire and El Dorado Polo Clubs, as well as championship boxing events at the Fantasy Springs Event Center. And there’s plenty of local and big-name shopping and dining to be found throughout the town, especially Downtown and along the 111 Corridor.
The Coachella Valley is known for its golf, and Indio is no exception. In fact, it is home to The Lights at Indio, the Valley’s only lighted golf course, for a unique night-golfing experience. Other notable golf courses and clubs include The Golf Club at Terra Lago and Indian Palms Country Club.
